Public Advisory: Kinderstart/Kindergarten Registration to Reopen

Today (Wednesday, June 10), the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is reopening the online registration process for Kinderstart 2020-21/Kindergarten 2021-22. Registration will remain open throughout the summer, until August 31, 2020.

This action is being taken as fewer families than expected took advantage of the annual registration process held last month, likely because of circumstances surrounding the ongoing public health emergency.

Families whose child will turn 5 years old on or before December 31, 2021 are encouraged to avail of this opportunity to register, if they have not already done so.

Meanwhile, during a typical year, families would confirm their addresses in-person at their zoned school to complete the registration process. However, given the current public health emergency, all families will be contacted by their registered school in the fall (September/October) to make arrangements to verify registration information (e.g., address, MCP number). Confirmation of placement in Early French Immersion will also occur at that time.

Complete registration information is available on the District’s website or directly at:

The District continues to encourage safety throughout the summer and urges communities to follow the latest advice from public health authorities.

The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is launching a resource to assist and guide families with continued learning opportunities while in-school instruction remains suspended. The resource, Learning at Home: Good at Learning-Good at Life ( is a Google site, a platform familiar to our students and staff. The site will provide opportunities to foster a passion for learning through engaging online and offline adventures and activities.

For now, there is no expectation for families to be teachers and there is no expectation for teachers to assign grades or values to any work students complete while they are at home. However, students are encouraged to share their learning and routines with their teachers for feedback. This resource is in addition to the many rich opportunities teachers are already providing.

As has been indicated throughout this entire situation, our current collective focus is on our learners and our staff; on maintaining and even strengthening our relationships. While we hope to find ourselves back with our students and co-workers soon, the uncertainty remains.

Twitter is a 'microblogging' system that allows you to send and receive short posts called tweets. Tweets can be up to 140 characters long and can include links to relevant websites and resources. Here at St Peter’s, we will use it as a platform to share some of the exciting things going on in our school and important announcements. Even though there is a messaging function it will not replace direct communication (email, phone calls, school messenger) with the school or classroom teachers. If you have a Twitter account and would like to follow us our Twitter handle is @SPeterElem. You can sign up for a free Twitter account at

Please be aware that due to the safety of school property we still have 3 video surveillance cameras set up at the back of our school. Please note proper signage is in place and if you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

On our District web site ( under the ‘tab’ Students and Families, under Resources, there are many online resources for K-6 Report Card Guide, Internet/Social Media Safety, Learning to Code, Health & Wellness, and much more. Please visit and browse at your convenience.

If you wish to send along Birthday Invitations, please send along an invitation for each and every child within the class. This will prevent children from becoming upset. Thank you in advance for understanding.

Please be aware that there are great resources/materials for all students, families and staff which can be found at: .

Most notably, resources include:

- Bus Safety Tips Brochure

- Student expectations on the Bus

- Bus safety video (we encourage everyone to view

this 15 minute video)

* Also, bus evacuation drills must be practiced at school this year. It is expected that these drills will be coordinated here at school before the end of November.

We have recently placed 2(two) new signs in front of the school and once again we would like to remind all visitors to our school to be respectful of the Blue Zone parking space. This parking space is reserved for those visitors with a valid Blue Zone Parking Permit. As well we would like to remind everyone that when visiting the school they remember not to park in the designated parking area for Special Transportation located on the bus parking lot. This area is treated as a bus parking area and is reserved for those drivers with a contract to transport students to school.
